Printmaking: Focus on Head and Figure

Brian Kelly
Using non-toxic methods of printmaking, both with and without the press, students will explore the head and the figure through monotype, linocut and collagraph. Monotype is a painterly print in which the image is painted onto a plate and then run through the press to transfer onto paper. Linocut is a relief print involving carving into a linoleum block and printing from that. And a collagraph is made by making and sealing a textured collage, inking it, and running it through the press onto paper. All three can be worked back into with other media, and are wonderful processes to explore.
