This course is designed to give a survey of Great Women Artists from the Renaissance to the
present. We will trace the conditions behind the production of some of the most significant and
controversial (albeit forgotten, suppressed and/or recently resurrected and revered) works of the
last 500 years. This class will cover various methods and materials of historic and contemporary
artistic practices: such as painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography; as wells as
sculpture, installation, performance and multimedia works. This class is suitable for any artist
who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of the history of art, and, particularly of women
creators, their achievements and their influence.
Weekly 2 hr classes will include lectures, discussion, learning exercises and critical readings.
