Printmaking Without a Press: The Collagraph

Instructor: Brian Kelley

Sunday, June 28

11 am - 3 pm EST

One of the mantras of this time we are in is to ‘make do with what you have on hand.’  The collagraph is a perfect printmaking technique to do at home without a press and with endless possibilities in-store.  It is basically a low-relief collage made on a rigid support with found textured items or cut shapes. The collage becomes your plate that is then inked and printed. This can easily be done with things you find around your home, and the results can be surprisingly beautiful. A brayer (roller) and a tube or two of block printing ink are helpful to have, but you can even work around that.  Some suggested materials will be sent to you, but start collecting textures now! This class will be taught live through Zoom, with additional resources sent either through email or Google Classroom.
