Drawing into Painting: Traditional Perception into Contemporary Voice (Int/Adv)
Instructor: Susan Yanero
What do we really see? In an atmosphere of exploration and fearlessness, students will combine intense, careful perceptual observation with a push towards an individual voice. When one has reached a point of seeing with absolute clarity, it is time to discover the surprises therein and use them as a point of departure into new territory. Goals of the class will be to:
find and make connections through form and space,
to discover new visual relationships and renew oneself through personal artistic sensibility and response,
and to move either more deeply into outward observation making editorial and emphatic choices from what’s out there, or more deeply inward using perception as a means to access memory, experience and expression.
Students will draw from the human form, and moveable still lifes to see what is really there. Working both large and small, using drawing materials and/or acrylic paint on paper, the class will allow their vision to lead them in ways they could not possibly imagine.
Artists such as Euan Uglow, Antonio Lopez Garcia, Piero della Francesca, as well as other modern and old masters, will serve as inspiration.
Who is this class for: This class is for those with solid experience in drawing and use of the visual language who are ready to take their skills into inventive, personal or more masterful perceptual realms.
