Feeling the Abstractions in the Landscape (5-weeks/Outside)
Instructor: Carol Rubin
May 20 - June 17
Thursdays, 10 am - 1 pm EST
We will meet at two parks near the Friendship Heights Metro stop – the recreation center park at Western Ave and Livingston St, and the West Grove Urban Park across the street. The class will focus on the student’s personal responses to the landscape. We will work with line, gesture, value and form, and color to interpret and express our reaction not just to what we see but to what we sense and feel. We will take a strong look at abstract elements that form the backbone of the landscape and help express its universality while being free to work creatively in our interpretation.
We will work on paper. Students are welcome to use their choice of medium or experiment with a variety of media, examples of which are outlined in the materials list. A portable outdoor easel is recommended. Masks are required, please.
In the event of inclement weather, we will make every attempt to schedule make-ups outdoors, but it is possible that a make-up class may occasionally need to take place online.
