Figure Drawing (Intermediate/Advanced)
Instructor: Diane Wilson
The human figure has been a predominant image in Western art for thousands of years, yet its interpretations and depictions are endlessly varied. Emphasizing the continued refinement of perceptual drawing skills, the course concentrates on the structure, movement and expressive qualities of the figure in space. Concepts that will be addressed include:
- anatomical landmarks,
- value control,
- planes as a means for finding form,
- weight, and
- placement on the page.
A combination of short gestural poses and longer studies be included. Students work to understand the uniqueness of each model and pose through a variety of drawing materials including charcoal, pencil and conte crayon.
