Gesturing in the Park (6weeks/Outdoors)
Instructor: Diane Wilson
Saturdays, 2 - 5 pm EST
September 19 - October 24 (6 weeks)
Raindate: October 31
This outdoor drawing class will meet in various park locations (starting with Peirce Mill) in DC and close-in surroundings, and will find gesture, rhythm and movement in trees, plants, rocks, and the occasional model.
Students may work in a variety of drawing materials including graphite, charcoal, conte, or pen and should use a high quality sketchbook as large as they can manage. Easels are not necessary but a light weight folding stool might be useful for some. Locations will be sent to registered students. Masks are required.
Objectives will be:
• to find the gesture in everything seen
• to find rhythms in the trees and spaces between
• to find value patterns and visual movement
• to understand deep and shallow space
Who is this class for: This class is for students of all levels who would like to explore the possibilities of drawing in natural settings. Previous drawing experience is helpful but not necessary.
