Clay Sculpture: Figurative Humanism
Instructor: Homer Yost
$485 includes clay fee
Crucially important for all artists, sculpture sharpens the visual skills essential to seeing and developing the three-dimensional aspects of human form. Through the sense of touch with the malleable medium of clay, students will:
Gain an understanding of masses in relation to each other and surrounding space,
gain an understanding of the definition and direction of planes, and
gain an understanding of gesture, weight, balance, rhythm, and the essential spirit of the pose.
The ultimate goal is to develop a vocabulary and ability to connect form and feeling – what Yost refers to as ‘figurative humanism.’ Work will be from the figure model.
Who is this class for: This class is for sculptors and painters alike who want to understand the 3-dimensionality of form in space, and it’s profiles from all directions, through the malleable and accessible medium of clay. It is recommended that students have some life drawing experience before starting to sculpt, but beginners are welcome.
