Translations

Instructor: Joanne Kaufman

Mondays, 2-5pm

This class channels the thought processes and working methods of artists whose work starts with an idea, or concept, which is then translated to visible response through marks.  Sol Lewitt’s systematic wall drawing instructions for others to execute can lead to infinite variations in results, as can John Cage’s employment of elements of chance. By looking at the work of artists who work in this way, and with a variety of materials, students will bring their own sensibilities to the translation of idea to surface.

Who is this class for: This class is for students who already have a strong set of perceptual and design skills, and want to take those skills into a more conceptual realm.
