Watercolor Into Monotype

Instructor: Lee Newman

Tuesdays, 2-5pm

This class is ideal for those who want to hone their watercolor skills and then put them to use in the painterly printmaking process of monotype. Favored by artists like Degas and Michael Mazur, a monotype is a singular print resulting from painting directly onto a plate and then running the plate through a press. While typically done with oil based inks, this class will use a watercolor technique on a grained aluminum plate provided by the instructor. A variety of subjects will be explored, including still life and the human figure. Concepts such as gesture, mass/tone and proportion will be covered as well as the material techniques of the medium.

Who is this class for: This class is best for those with some previous drawing skills, and ideally some watercolor experience, although those new to watercolor are welcome.
