Join Heather Kerley and United States Botanic Garden staff for this engaging drop-in activity. Learn to translate a line drawing based on plants into an embroidered botanical image. Students are invited to visit the U.S. Botanic Garden’s collection and stitch-draw a few favorite plants. Supplies are included, but limited to the first 200 visitors. Heather Kerley is a Maryland-based mixed media and fiber artist whose practice spans watercolor, collage, embroidery, and other craft traditions. Originally from the Midwest, she studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design before earning a BA and MA focused on gender studies and postcolonial literature. Her work explores themes of entanglement, kinship with the more-than-human world, and the historical healing role of fiber arts.
