Figure drawing from a live model by direct observation is an important historical practice in drawing and painting. Working from the human figure, we will emphasize structure and artistic anatomy, art history as it applies to studio art, as well as historical and practical aesthetic considerations. The choice of drawing materials is left to the student's discretion and experience. For at least one of the class sessions, we will meet somewhere outdoors to draw from a figurative sculpture or sculptural group. Students will begin with a few short, warm-up poses, and will mostly be drawing from long poses.

Who is this class for: This class is for those new to drawing the figure observation as well as those who want to refresh their fundamental skills in seeing and drawing the figure from life.

We recommend that students take 'Introduction to Drawing' or have an equivalent level of drawing experience before registering for this class.
