Magic Moments: Technological and Ideological Turning Points in Western Art and Culture
This course is designed to give an introductory overview of Western Art History from the Renaissance through the 20th century. We will trace the conditions behind the production of some of the most significant and controversial works of the last 500 years. Historical events, social values, and technological innovations informed many artists’ ways of seeing and communicating the world around them to often unwilling audiences.
Through lectures and discussion, students will learn about these pivotal moments in art history and gain experience in interpreting visual language and representation.
Classes will be 2 hours and will include presentations on a variety of artworks in different media and stylistic movements throughout Europe and America.
**Online Courses
If you have registered for an online course, you will receive access information via email 24 hours before the start of your class or workshop. If you are registering late for a class that starts over the weekend, you will receive access information on the following weekday.
