This class is designed to help students with some painting experience advance to a greater understanding of composition, color orchestration, space, paint handling, and rendering. Students will be guided to see with the artistโs eye and discover how to make paintings that resonate with a personal voice. Abstract decision-making will be explored, where form, mark, gesture and color play a deliberate role in producing work that speaks clearly, if non-verbally. We will focus on color and gesture as primary tools in this process.
We will work from still life, the model, and interior spaces. Setups are likely to include a variety of non-traditional elements designed to help push past habits of simple literal representation.
Who is this class for: This class is for those who have completed the Introduction/Beginning Painting sequence at WSS or who possess basic painting and rendering skills and a solid understanding of values.
