About the Artist

Robert D'Arista 1.jpg

Robert D'Arista (1929–1987) was a painter of Italian descent whose early promise earned him recognition from the Guggenheim Museum and a solo exhibition in New York before the age of 25. His style evolved from expressive impasto to more lyrical explorations of color and form, reflecting influences from Cezanne, Seurat, and the School of Paris. A Fulbright scholar and frequent exhibitor in major American institutions, D’Arista became known for his emotionally charged still lifes and portraits. He lived and taught in Washington, D.C., where he was closely associated with the Washington Studio School, contributing significantly to its founding artistic community and pedagogical legacy.
