SEE AND BE SEEN: DC

JUNE 23 - AUGUST 2

RECEPTIONS:

FRIDAY JULY 5, FROM 6 TO 8PM

FRIDAY AUGUST 2, FROM 6 TO 8PM

WEEKEND GALLERY HOURS: SATURDAY JULY 27, 12-4PM

WSS is pleased to present See and Be Seen: DC, a participatory experience and installation exploring perception, self-perception, self-expression, voice and identity through self-portraits. The project, which features 75 self-portraits and counting, celebrates the District and the diversity of those who inhabit it. Mirrors and art supplies are provided to visitors of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels who are invited to draw self-portraits. Completed portraits are tacked to our gallery walls throughout the day, and will be shared on WSS's social media channels. The result is a dynamic and democratic portrait of the city, portrayed in a variety of styles of media. This live exhibition will begin on Sunday, June 23 during WSS's 7th annual Big Draw day, and as part of Halycon's By the People Festival. Each self-portrait stands uniquely on its own, but as an installation reads as a powerful reflection and amalgam of DC's cultural and artistic diversity. We invite visitors to come join us in the participatory exhibition and add their self-portrait to the growing gallery through August 2.
